He debuted in 1964 at the INTERód lek Public Theater as Harlekin in Jacint Benaventi’s GAME OF INTEREST directed by Maria Kaniewska. Back in współód skim, he collaborated with Jerzy Grzegorzewski on the performance Bertolt Brecht’s CAUCASIAN CHALK WHEEL. Since 1970 he has performed in Warsaw theaters: Polish, Square, Dramatic and Universal.
In 2003, he joined the ensemble of the National Theater. He made his debut here as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s DEATH OF THE COMMIVOR, directed by Kazimir Kutz. Among the most important shows from that time include: THE POWER of Nick Dear directed by Jan Englert, LOVE IN CRIMEA by Slavomir Mro Bogaek directed by Jerzy Jarocki, Amanita Muskarii’s DAILY SOUP directed by Malgorzata Bogayevska, SUPERVISOR by Harold Pinter directed by Piotr Cie Englak, THE HANOCH Levin’s LIFE BLOW directed by Jan Engleert, KITTEN ON A HOT TIN ROOF of Tennessee Williams directed by Grzegorz Chrapkiewicz, monodrama MASS FOR THE CITY OF ARRAS according to Andrej Szczypiorski. His last role in the National Theater was the character of Norman in Ronald Harwood’s WARDROBE directed by Adam Sajnuk.
In 2022, Janusz Gajos said goodbye to the National Theater, remaining a legend of the scene. In one of the interviews, he said: “I’m grateful to fate that I had the opportunity to embrace this profession.” Learning it from scratch, consciously cultivating it, I tried to always be fair in my conversation with the audience.
