BASEBALL-MAD Patrick Mahomes is fully invested for the start of the new MLB season.
The Kansas City Chiefs superstar is licking his wounds following heartbreak at Super Bowl LXI
Mahomes and the Chiefs were blown out 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles last month.
The 28-year-old is keen for a distraction for the long NFL offseason.
And he sent his best wishes to the Kansas City Royals as they prepared for MLB Opening Day.
The Royals took on the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday night.
Prior to the game, Mahomes tagged in the official Royals X account to his 2.7 million followers.
The three-time Super Bowl champion wrote: “Let’s go!!!”
Unfortunately for Mahomes and the Royals, it wasn’t to be a dream start to the season.
Kansas City raced into a 3-0 lead thru three innings and looked in control.
Neither team could be separated after nine innings with the scores level at 4-4.
But it was the Guardians who would win it thanks to a three-run extra 10th inning, claiming the opening game of the series 7-4.
Despite the Royals’ struggles, Mahomes had more luck with his other passion – college basketball.
The NFL superstar had a keen interest in the Sweet 16 stage of March Madness later on Thursday night.
It featured his alma mater Texas Tech as they took on Arkansas for a place in the Elite Eight.
Texas Tech won an overtime thriller 85-83 to seal a quarterfinal spot.
