2. A Healthy Baby, Suddenly in Crisis

Luka had been a healthy eight-month-old baby until a playful incident at the pool led to a frightening turn. After aspirating water, he began to struggle breathing. What initially appeared to be pneumonia soon revealed itself as something much more dire.

3. The Diagnosis: Stage L2 Intermediate Neuroblastoma

Doctors diagnosed Luka with Stage L2 intermediate neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer typically affecting very young children. In the U.S., only around 800 children are diagnosed with this each year.

4. Immediate Medical Response

Swiftly, Luka was life-flown to Dallas Children’s Hospital. Medical staff discovered a large tumor near his lung, necessitating surgery and chest tube placement. He spent time in the ICU, supported by oxygen and intensive care measures.
