Czwartek był pracowity dla Katarzyny Kawy. Po meczu gry pojedynczej nasza reprezentantka wystąpiła także w spotkaniu deblowym.
W trwającym tygodniu 32-letnia tenisistka z Krynicy-Zdroju walczy o punkty w Cancun. Meksykańskie miasto gości turniej rangi WTA 125, a w deblu Kawa została rozstawiona z numerem pierwszym. Partnerką Polki jest tym razem Ena Shibahara, czyli finalistka Australian Open w grze podwójnej oraz mistrzyni Rolanda Garrosa w grze mieszanej.
W meczu o półfinał polsko-japoński duet mierzył się z holenderską parą, którą stworzyły 28-letnia Arianne Hartono i 25-letnia Eva Vedder. Zawodniczki nie osiągnęły do tej pory znaczących wyników w najważniejszych turniejach.
Pierwszy set upłynął szybko, a faworytki nie pozostawiły w nim złudzeń rywalkom. Shibahara i Kawa straciły zaledwie jednego gema i wyraźnie zaznaczyły na korcie swoją dominację.
Druga partia była nieco bardziej wyrównana. W jej trzecim gemie turniejowe „jedynki” zdobyły przełamanie, ale tym razem przeciwniczki zwarły szyki i natychmiast odpowiedziały tym samym. Kluczowy okazał się dziewiąty gem, w którym Polka i Japonka ponownie odebrały serwis Holenderkom. Chwilę potem pewne wygrały własne podanie, co oznaczało, że zagrają w półfinale. Ich rywalkami będą Hiszpanki Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers i Aliona Bolsova.
