Armand Duplantis poprawił swój własny rekord świata w skoku o tyczce na igrzyskach olimpijskich w Paryżu. Szwed bez większych problemów wygrał konkurs, a następnie podjął próbę pobicia najlepszego rezultatu w historii. 25-latek uzyskał 6,25 m i tym samym poprawił swoje osiągnięcie o jeden centymetr.

Dotychczasowy rekord świata w skoku o tyczce wynosił 6,24 m. Duplantis osiągnął taką wysokość w kwietniu tego roku w Xiamen. W Paryżu Szwed miał trzy podejścia do poprzeczki zawieszonej na szóstym metrze i 25. centymetrze. W pierwszych dwóch przypadkach strącił przeszkodę. Skuteczna okazała się ostatnia próba.
