Shakira speaks out after being hospitalized over medical emergency — read statement

Shakira took to social media to share a difficult update less than week into her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.

The 48-year-old performer shared a statement on her Instagram and X accounts stating that she was forced to cancel her concert in Lima, Peru scheduled on February 16 due to medical reasons.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” Shakira wrote, adding that based on advice from her doctors, she cannot perform.

As of 2023, Shakira has a reported net worth of a whopping $300 million, from over 20 years of releasing hit songs – in both Spanish and English no less – such as “La Tortura,” “She Wolf,” “Ciega, Sordomuda,” “Si Te Vas,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and more.

Her accomplishments in the music industry were most recently celebrated at this year’s MTV VMAs, where she was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, becoming the first South American artist to have ever received the nod.
