Coco is set to face her toughest opponent, Iga Swiatek, in the second group match of the ongoing WTA Finals in Riyadh today, November 5, 2024. This match coincides with a pivotal day in American politics, as the nation heads to the polls for a consequential presidential election.
Having already cast her vote before heading out of the country, Coco has already made a strong start to the tournament, defeating compatriot Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-2 in her opening match! She’s looking to maintain her winning momentum in her bid to reach the semifinals of the competition for the very first time.
Swiatek, however, poses a significant challenge, boasting an 11-1 record against her younger opponent, with all wins coming in straight sets.
The match will be played on a hard court, which favors the American, and she’s in good form, having won 11 of her last 12 matches.
Swiatek, on the other hand, is still finding her rhythm after nearly two months away from competition.
