In fact, all these three players were the main characters in Barcelona’s initial financial crisis, which forced the club to ask for a number of star players’ salaries and to postpone a part of their salaries for a later period. Messi, Busquets and Alba are among those to whom the club has deferred paying part of their salaries and have not received their full salaries so far. However, payments for Messi, Busquets and Alba were supposed to be stopped at the end of the season.

Payments due to these players will affect only the level of Barcelona’s cash register and will not be included in the expenses for the 2024/25 season. The reason for this is that everything was calculated as part of the expenses for the 2020/21 season, when the reserves were initially created. Nevertheless, these payments have had a major impact on Barcelona, especially as the club is desperately trying to get its books sorted.

With 2025 just around the corner, the next few months could be crucial as Barcelona look to further restrict spending and salary payments, possibly by approving the sales of some of its star players. Barcelona have also identified key players, including Lamine Yamala, who are likely to be treated as a priority as the club look to seal its long-term future at the Camp Nou.
